Steamy Excerpt: Meet Jonathan and Monica

Thursday afternoon shift at the Stock was slow by Saturday night standards. I earned less money, but the atmosphere was more relaxed. There was always a minute to chill with Debbie at the service bar. I liked her more and more all the time. I tried to keep it light and hold my energy up. Just because this gig tonight wasn’t my own songwriting, I still wanted to do a good job. But after Darren’s call and the sputtering dissolution of the band, I lost the mojo, and I just sounded like Sinatra on barbiturates. I had no idea how to get that heat back.

Debbie got off her phone as I slid table ten’s ticket across the bar. Robert snapped it up and poured my rounds.

“I think he likes you,” Debbie said, indicating Robert. He was hot in his black T-shirt and Celtic tattoos.

“Not my type.”

“What is your type?”

I shrugged. “Nonexistent.”

“Okay, well, finish with this table and go on your break. Could you go down to Sam’s office and make a copy of next week’s schedule?” She handed me a slip of paper with the calendar. The waitstaff hung around waiting for it every week as our station placement and hours determined not only how much money we’d make over the next seven days, but our social and family plans as well. And here she was giving it to me two hours early. She smiled and patted my arm before walking off to greet three men in suits.

I went to the bathroom and freshened up, then headed for Sam’s office.

It wasn’t a warm, fabulously decorated place like Jonathan’s at K. It was totally utilitarian, with a linoleum floor and metal filing cabinets. The copy machine was in there, and I put the schedule on the glass without turning the lights on. The windows gave enough afternoon light.

The energy saver was on, meaning the copier was ice cold. I tapped start and waited. Lord knew how long it would take. I stretched my neck and hummed, then whispered, the lyrics to Under My Skin.

I gasped when I smelled his dry scent. When I turned, Jonathan stood in the doorway with his arms crossed. That was the first time I’d seen him in daylight, and the sunlight made him look more human, more substantial, more present, and more gorgeous, if that was even possible.

“Jonathan.”

“Hi.”

I realized the deal with the schedule copying just then. “Debbie sent me up here.”

“You didn’t know she was a yenta?”

“You’re very persistent.”

“I just kept telling myself I didn’t want you, but we said no lies, and I think that includes lying to myself. How about you?”

I didn’t know what to say. I had shut out thoughts of him for almost a week. I thought about baseball, chord progressions, and getting a new manager whenever he came into my mind. So having him in front of me was like opening a closet door and having all the stuff come tumbling out.

I took a step forward, and he did, too. We were in each other’s arms in a second, mouths attached, tongues twisting. He reached back and closed the door.

Okay, I was going to get this over with now. Me and him. Right there. Just get it done so I could move on. He thrust me onto the desk and I opened my legs, wrapping them around his waist. He was pushing against me again, like on the hood of the Mercedes, a million years ago.

He put his hands up my shirt, across my stomach and to my breasts.

“Yes?” he gasped.

“Yes,” I whispered. “Yes to everything.”

“Yes,” he whispered in my ear, then pushed my bra up and cupped my tits, finding my nipples and rubbing them with his thumbs. My hips levitated from the desk, and I made some noise deep in my throat. Damn, he was good. Lots of practice. He knew exactly what to do.

He looked down at my chest, nipples hardening from his touch and the cool air. “My God, Monica, you are magnificent.”

I laughed, because being admired like that made me nervous, but he shut me up when he put his mouth on one nipple and his fingers on the other, pressing and twisting. My legs tightened around him, hitching my skirt up to my waist. With only my panties between me and his jeans, he felt harder and more forceful. He pushed against me, and I flowed with him, my hips to his rhythm as I gripped his hair. I’d almost come like that, eons ago, with some guy in freshman year I couldn’t even remember now, and it felt like it might happen again.

As if reading my mind, he pulled away. His own breathing was heavy as he looked at me, not as if he was undressing me with his eyes, but as if he was making plans for the body in front of him. He moved his hands down my sides and pulled my skirt up, bunching it at the waist. My underwear bottoms, which I hadn’t given a thought to when I’d dressed in the morning, were the only thing between me and the world.

“Listen,” I started, “I don’t know if Sam would think this is ok.”

He put his fingertips to my mouth, and I shushed. Let him explain to Sam. Let me get fired. I parted my lips and took two of his fingers in my mouth, sucking them down to the back.

“Ah, Monica,” was all he said as he pulled them out, slowly, and pushed them back in at the same pace. I cupped my tongue around them and sucked. Not too hard, just enough. I knew I was doing it right when his eyelids closed just a little, and he opened his mouth for something between a gasp and an aah. He rubbed them over my bottom lip, curling it back, then put them back in my mouth. I took them eagerly, tasting his skin, feeling his warm breath on my face.

He slid his fingers out and stepped back, taking his crotch away from mine. I suddenly felt exposed and started to close my legs, but he pressed them apart. I reached for his buckle, but he pulled away.

“I want to touch you,” I said.

“Not yet.”

“I’m going crazy.”

“No, you’re not. Not enough.”

With that, he moved the crotch of my panties to the side and put the finger he’d just removed from my mouth onto my wet folds. We both gasped. Then he slid two fingers into me. Slowly.

“Oh, God,” I whispered.

He slipped them out without a word and put his thumb on the thin strip of cotton covering my clit. Lightly. Barely touching it. Just enough so I knew it was there, and he leaned over to kiss me, flicking his tongue in time with his thumbnail as it gently scratched the fabric of my underwear.

I thrust my hips forward. His fingers went deep into me, but the thumb wouldn’t press down any harder. It just grazed the cotton as he glided his two fingers in and out.

“What do you want?” he asked.

“I want you to fuck me.”

“What’s the magic word?”

“Now?”

His fingers worked my body while he bent down to whisper into my ear. “You have three minutes of break left.”

“I don’t care.”

“I’m going to spend hours fucking you.”

My hips pushed against his hand, but he kept control: a light touch of the thumb and a slow grind with the fingers. I was on fire. I thought I had known what that meant, but I didn’t.

“After your shift.”

“I have a gig right after. We have to do it now.” He might have considered it for the next three thrusts, but he didn’t give my clit more than a stroke through fabric. I couldn’t decide if that was pleasure or torture.

“After your gig,” he said. “I have a dinner meeting anyway. Meet me at the hotel tonight. Room 3423.”

“I have to take care of my roommate.”

“Figure it out.”

He pulled his fingers out of me. I felt the loss of them and his tormenting thumb so deeply I moaned. Sitting there, splayed and nearly naked on Sam’s desk, I felt foolish and exposed, not to mention ravenously aroused.

“Don’t.” I didn’t have anything more to say, except don’t stop there; don’t leave me like this. My eyes must have pleaded with him for some release, because his face, with its parted lips and heavy lids, shone with a lustful satisfaction. He knew I wanted him to fuck me for hours, starting on that desk. “You are despicable,” I said.

He pulled my skirt down, and when he leaned down to kiss me, I returned it with no little anger on my lips. “Too true. And tonight, you’re mine.”

“What if I don’t show?”

“You’ll show.”

After opening the door as little as possible, as if to protect my destroyed modesty, he was gone.

Songs of Submission Reading Order and Purchase Buttons

Sequence 1: Beg, Tease, Submit (Novellas 1-3)

Beg
My name is Monica. I'm a singer born and raised in Los Angeles.
I've stopped dating. When I cut a record, or win a Grammy, maybe then I'll be with someone, but every man in my past has done everything he could to make me submit myself to him, and it's gotten in the way of my career. I won't do it again.
But there's Jonathan. He owns the high-rise hotel where I work, and he is gorgeous and charming. I refuse to fall in love with him, even though when he asks me to submit to him, I want nothing more.

Tease
When Jonathan was gone I couldn't stop thinking about him, and the first thing he did when he got back was demand more of me. I'm willing to give him my body and my time, but I find myself giving up pieces of my heart.
My career is on track, and even though I can't write a thing, I can sing. So I'll go to the art opening with him, because his ex wife will be there. I feel this need to protect him from hurt, though in bed, his domination brings me to my knees.
This man is going to break me into a million little pieces.

Submit
"You're mine. The minute I told you to spread your legs and you did it, you were mine. When I told you to beg for it and you did, you were mine. When you put your hands behind your back without being told, I owned you. You never had to say a word. You are a natural submissive."
No. God, no.
My name is Monica, and no matter what Jonathan says, I am not submissive.
“The minute I told you to spread your legs and you did it, you were mine. When I told you to beg for it and you did, you were mine. When you put your hands behind your back without being told, I owned you.”
Submit, Sequence 1, Songs of Submission by CD Reiss

Sequence 2: Control, Burn, Resist (Novellas 4-6)

Control
What you're breaking isn't some little, meaningless coupling. We aren't some casual screw, and we never were. Not from the first night. Not from the first time I laid eyes on you. You were built for me. I denied it as long as I could, but we were meant to be together. You are the sea under my sky. We are bound at the horizon.

Burn
Here's how it's going to be, goddess.
Until you surrender yourself to me fully, I will not touch you.
Until the world can know you belong to me, I will not kiss you.
I'm going to be inches away, at your side. I'm going to whisper in your ear and put my breath on your neck, but the heat of my skin will not feel the shudder of yours until you commit yourself to me completely.

Resist
I looked down at him, with his tourmaline eyes and copper hair, and believed him despite my better judgment.
I forgave him despite my misgivings. I loved him just because I did.
My heart wasn't sensible or guarded enough. Not by a sight. I was a walking raw nerve ending of emotion, as if the years I'd spent away from men and sex had made me more emotional, more vulnerable, more foolish.
I ran my fingers through his hair, feeling like the victim of a crime of consent.
“God,' he said, 'I have to have you.'
'Take me. Own me. Use me. Pick a verb. Just please.'
'Fuck you. I'm going to fuck you. That's my verb.”

Monica, Novella #8

Picture
I missed two things.

I missed my freedom, and I missed slavery.

I got myself caught in a nether region where I couldn't come and go as I pleased, and I didn't feel protected.

I was being unfair and I knew it. What man could be expected to keep up Jonathan's intensity for any length of time? No human could continue to be a raging lion after having their heart ripped out.

So, though we burdened each other with many things, I never burdened him with my longing for my dominant Jonathan. That man was gone. I loved the man who replaced him. He was everything I almost lost in that nightmare of a hospital. He was funny and thoughtful. Gracious and wise. He was still the best lover I'd ever laid my hands on.

But he wasn't the lion of a man he'd been, until today. The day my king returned....

Excerpt:  Let Love Shine

Here we are a year later and we couldn’t be happier to have Braden’s first birthday party tomorrow with our friends and family. Between prepping for the party, me working overtime, and Maddy finishing her last summer course, we’ve barely been able to stay awake past eight every night.

But watching them dance and laugh in front of me makes it all worth it.

I pull them both into my arms and just hold them for a quick second before Braden starts shimmying out of Maddy’s arms. He’s caught sight of his Lightning McQueen racecar on the floor and is reaching for it. Handing him his car, Maddy puts him in his bouncy seat. The sight of my wife taking care of our son, talking baby talk and kissing him sweetly should warm my heart.  But all I can see is her ass right now. Yep, I want her.

“Get over here.” I pull her back to me once Braden is situated and brush her hair out of her eyes. “You look beautiful, you know that?” I trail sweet, soft kisses behind her ear and down her neck.

“Hmmm,” she mumbles and it makes me smile against her skin.

Moving from her neck across to her mouth, I feel her lean into my lips. This is something else of which I’ll never get tired. Her full, luscious lips pressed against mine; the taste of her sweet mouth still drives me crazy. “Well, hello there.” Pulling away from our kiss, Maddy arches her eyebrows as she presses her hips into my groin. The last motion surprises me more than a little. To say that our sex life has been different in the last year is, well, it’s an understatement to say the least.

“What? I’m not allowed to want my wife.” I grab her ass and push her into my erection a bit more. Our hands roam as the kiss rises in intensity. I fist a handful of her hair and pull her mouth even closer to mine. It’s the hottest kiss we’ve had in a while. Just as her hips start to roll into mine, we’re distracted by a sound, and smell, to which we’ve grown all too accustomed in the last year.

Before I can even move my hands from her body, Maddy’s pinching her nose closed. “Not it!” She calls out and laughs.

“Damn, you’re getting quick!” It’s kind of been our thing to decide who gets to change him. I scowl playfully at her and she just laughs at me.

“Dude, you’re killing my game.” Braden smiles as I hold him out in front of me. “Holy crap! What the hell did you feed this kid today?” Seriously, he’s lethal.

“He ate the same as usual. He’s just a stinky little monster.” She says the last sentence to Braden in that ridiculous baby talk. You can talk sweet about it all you want; it’s still poop.

Book Summary: Let Love In

Picture
What would happen if you lost everything? If the people who were supposed to love you unconditionally were no longer there for you, how would your world change?

Madeleine Becker lost everything when her parents died when she was ten years old. Ripped from her home and everything that she has ever loved, she is forced to start all over again. The only way for her to move on is to build walls around her heart and keep everyone at a safe distance. Her logic: she can't get hurt if she doesn't fall in love.

That theory is blown to pieces when she meets Reid Connely during her freshman year at college. He is gorgeous and darkly mysterious. He understands Maddy's pain all too well, but sharing his pain would mean breaking down the walls he put up around his own heart. Conflicted between loving Maddy and hiding his dark past, Reid starts to reevaluate his world. Maddy's inner strength, snarky personality and breath taking beauty help Reid to make peace with his past.

Together they find out what happens when they let love in.

Excerpt: Let Love In

He spins me around and pulls me close to him. He places his hands at the nape of my neck and pulls the hair tie out of my hair so that it falls around my face softly. Gently sweeping the hair that has fallen in my eyes out of the way, he brings his face closer to mine and kisses me. This kiss is different from the rest we’ve shared. It’s full of the promise of pleasure.

His tongue brushes up against mine. He’s tentative and slow at first. I can tell he’s trying to control himself, but that’s not what I want. I want to dive into his depths and get lost there, to give myself over completely to this man who I love. I know in this moment that I need to tell him that. Despite my earlier reservations about being scared, he needs to know that I love him. Whatever walls he’s keeping up, whatever secrets he’s got from me, can’t possibly be enough to change my love for him and he needs to know that.

I break the kiss and look up into his piercing blue depths. “Reid, I have to tell you something.” He looks at me questioningly before saying, “Maddy, you can tell me anything.” He brushes his knuckles softly across my cheek and says, “Is it something I did? Talk to me; tell me what’s on your mind.”

I pull him across the room to sit on the bed. My insides are trembling with nervousness over what I’m about to say and over what I know I’m finally going to let happen. He’s sitting on the edge of the bed, his feet touching the floor. I straddle his lap so that my legs are wrapped around him and so that I can look at his cool cerulean pools of love when I speak. I cup my hand around his cheek tenderly and take a deep breath, bracing for the words that are about to come out.

“Reid, I love you.” I pause to register the shock in his eyes, but there is none. He just smiles adoringly at me and traces slow, soft patterns across my back. There’s silence for a moment, and I need to fill it. “I know that you might feel like it’s too soon and I know we each have our own boatload of issues, but I can’t help how I feel. You’re amazing and you’ve broken through every barrier I’ve ever put in place to keep people out. There’s no one I want more than you and I know that we’ll be able to overcome whatever is thrown at us. I feel that strongly about us. It’s scary, terrifying actually, but I just needed you to know that I love you. I love you so, so much.” I say all of that so quickly that I need to inhale deeply just to get some air back into my lungs.

His lips tip up into a devilishly beautiful smile and he says, “Are you done? Can I have my turn?” I nod and say “uh huh” in return. Normal language function has completely left my brain.

“Madeleine, I love you too.” I move to say something but he silences me with a kiss. “No, you got your turn; now it’s mine.” He kisses me again before saying the rest. “I love you more than anything. I would move heaven and earth to make you realize how much I love you. And I don’t want you to think I’m saying this just because you’ve said it. I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately and, yea, I’ve got some fucked up shit in my head, the same shit that made me build those sky-high walls in the first place, but around you, they just vanish. That’s why I did all of this up here tonight. I wanted to create a beautiful memory of the first time I told you that I loved you. When we do decide to take things to the next level, physically, I wanted the bed to be ours and ours alone. I wanted it to just be me and you in there –no other memories except this one right now, of you glowing beautifully by the candlelight, sitting in my arms, listening to me carry on and on about how much I love you.” He kisses me on the tip of my nose and brushes the pads of his thumbs under my eyes where a few stray tears have fallen.

His confession of love ignites a fire low in my belly. If I thought I wanted him before, I was sadly mistaken. I reach for the hem of his shirt and pull it over his head, our eyes only breaking contact when the fabric brushes over his head. I push him back onto the bed so that he’s lying down and I’m still straddled on top of him. His hands are at my waist, but they’re so big that they nearly span it entirely. He moves them down a little to where my hips flow into the upper swell of my ass and he squeezes gently. His thumbs begin tracing sensual circles dangerously close to my core.

"For the first time ever, I want a girl for more than just one night, for more than just sex. She’s alive and vibrant. I just feel like she sees me, the real me. Scares the shit out of me, but I can’t deny it any longer."

Excerpt: Let Love Stay

I get out of the truck and walk over towards the two of them.  Maddy’s back is to me as I approach her and her date, so she doesn’t see me right away.  But once the guy sees me, she spins around to look at what has caught his eye.

Her face is shocked and when our eyes lock, my heart skips a beat.  There’s a pull between us.  As much as I hate to admit it, she owns me.  Her eyes are magical.  They dance with light and passion and when she looks at me, they are filled with love.

The love and passion that are sparkling in her emerald green eyes evaporate when she realizes the scene that I’ve just stumbled upon.  I can only imagine what’s going through her mind, but I’m sure the images of me kicking Logan’s ass are flashing vividly through her mind.

I’m no more than a few feet from them when the guy pushes Maddy behind him to protect her from what he perceives as a threat.  He’s not very far from the truth, but she’s not the one who needs protecting.

Menacingly close now, he pipes up.  “Who the fuck are you?  What do you want?”  Okay, I’ll give the prick a little bit of credit for trying to stand up to me, but he has no clue what he’s competing against here.

The caveman in me wants to deck this guy and drag Maddy into a bed – any bed – and claim her, repeatedly, until she understands that she’s mine and no one else’s.  I’m going to do that anyway, but hopefully I can refrain from knocking this guy on his ass.  I’d like to have the use of my hands tonight.

My eyes never leave Maddy’s, but my words are directed at him.  “Me?  I’m the boyfriend, asshole.”  Maddy’s eyes widen slightly as I say “boyfriend.”  Did she really think we ever broke up?

I avert my gaze from Maddy for a minute to stare this douchebag down.  “And who the fuck do you think you are?”  He falters, not enough that most people would notice, but I’m in predator mode.  I see his throat work hard to swallow past the newly formed fear.  His pupils dilate slightly and the pulse beating in his neck picks up as adrenaline surges through him.  If he thinks he’s going to win this battle, he is wrong – so fucking wrong.

He puffs out his chest as he says, “I’m Maddy’s date for tonight.”  He snickers lightly as he says, “You know?  She never mentioned a boyfriend when I asked her out.  Must not be much of a boyfriend if she doesn’t even mention you.”  He swells with pride at his snarky little quip.  In the split second he looks away from me to gauge Maddy’s approval, I lay him flat on the ground as I drop my shoulder into his gut and take his legs out from underneath him with one of my own.  I freaking love my takedown skills.  I didn’t even have to bust up my hands.  I’m definitely going to need them in a little bit.

I straddle over him and pull him up by the collar.  “Whether she mentioned me or not, she’s mine, so lay the fuck off.  Got it?”

Maddy still hasn’t said a word and I haven’t actually spoken directly to her.  I’m pretty sure she understands my actions though.  Wordlessly, I reach my hand out to her.  This is her chance.  If she still wants me, then she’ll come with me.  This is who I am, who I’ve always been.  If she can’t understand that I love her, that I want her more than anything, then it’s not because I haven’t tried as hard as I possibly could to prove it to her.

Hand still outstretched, I look her directly in the eyes, as I try to convey everything that I’m thinking, that I’m feeling.  In what feels like an act of God, she understands me and laces her hand in mine.

"I made a few promises to myself. They’re very simple promises, but ones that I hope will wipe the slate clean. 1. Choose happy. 2. Appreciate beauty. 3. Let love in."

Excerpt: Ryan Returns to Fin After Six Years

Later that morning after their workout and shower, Jake fell asleep on the couch. Feeling at a loss with nothing but time on his hands, Ryan wandered down the hall towards Fin’s room. She was sitting at a little study nook in the corner, laptop open with one foot resting on her chair. She was wearing a tank top and a little pair of shorts. Leaning up against the doorframe, he couldn’t tear his eyes away from those long, delectable legs.

As though sensing his presence, she turned in her chair. He forced his eyes upwards, catching a sexy flush fill her cheeks at his blatant perusal.

“Morning, Ryan.” She took off her black framed reading glasses and tossed them on the desk.

“Morning, Fin,” he replied.

Against his better judgement, Ryan pushed away from the door and walked farther into the room. Fin hadn’t changed at all and neither had his desire for her. His heart kicked over when she met his eyes. He knew everything he was feeling right now was written all over him, but he couldn’t seem to shut it off.

Her eyelids fluttered closed and she whispered, “Why now?”

Ryan took a deep breath. “I don’t know,” he replied honestly.

He shouldn’t still be feeling this way after so many years. Why was he doing this to her, and to himself? It was better for everyone if he stayed away like he was supposed to.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have come. I’ll go stay at the barracks.” He turned to leave.

“Ryan!” she called out. Scrambling out of the chair, she grabbed his arm as he was halfway out the door.

“Fin,” he warned, looking down at her hand pointedly.

She took a step closer and he breathed her in, her scent like jasmine on a hot summer’s day. He was surprised when he looked into her eyes and saw anger burning hotly in their depths.

“Six years, Ryan. Do you know how hurt I was, each day passing by and getting nothing—not even a note or an email? I didn’t just lose you. I lost my brother too. Both of you left me, and I was okay with that. I understood that this was what you needed to do, so I moved on. I built a life that doesn’t include you. That was what I had to do.” She paused and raised a shaky hand to cup his cheek. “I’d have given you my entire heart if you’d only asked, but it’s not yours now. It’s not yours.”

Ryan closed his eyes, agony for losing what was never his rose in his chest until he felt strangled by it. He placed his hand over hers, holding it there until she tugged it away.

“You’re right,” Fin told him. “You should stay on the barracks … but I don’t want you to. Damn you, Ryan,” she whispered fiercely. “I don’t want you to.”

Ryan used his bulk to crowd her against the wall until there was no room for her to move. Leaning one hand against the wall, he grabbed her hip with the other. Her breathing rose rapidly and he leaned in, ducking his head until their mouths hovered a mere breath apart.

“Why can’t I force myself to leave?” He rested his forehead against hers and closed his eyes. “I hurt too. For six years I fought every day not to think of you, and I lost, because every day you were all I could see. You were the best thing in my life—so sweet and innocent, and so goddamn tempting.” His hand strayed from her hip and slid down to grip her ass. He swallowed the groan. “I stayed away so you could move on.”

Picture
Ryan Kendall is broken. He understands pain. He knows the hand of violence and the ache of loss. He knows what it means to fail those who need you. Being broken doesn’t stop him wanting the one thing he can’t have; Finlay Tanner. Her smile is sweet and her future bright. She’s the girl he grew up with, the girl he loves, the girl he protects from the world, and from himself.

At nineteen, Ryan leaves to join the Australian Army. After years of training he becomes an elite SAS soldier and deploys to the Afghanistan war. His patrol undertakes the most dangerous missions a soldier can face. But no matter how far he runs, or how hard he fights, his need for Finlay won’t let go.

Returning home after six years, one look is all it takes to know he can’t live without her. But sometimes love isn’t enough to heal what hurts. Sometimes people like him can’t be fixed, and sometimes people like Finlay deserve more than what’s left.

This is a story about war and the cost of sacrifice. Where bonds are formed, and friendships found. Where those who are strong, fall hard. Where love is let go, heartache is born, and heroes are made. Where one man learns that the hardest fight of all, is the fight to save himself.

This book is recommended for 18+ due to adult language and themes.
Please note: K McCarthy is an Australian author and Australian spelling, language and slang has been used in this book.

Kate McCarthy grew up in a small town outside of Port Macquarie, Australia. Raised in a house just a short walk to the beach, Kate enjoyed the peaceful, relaxed atmosphere and friendships that come from being raised in a friendly, small town area.

She now resides in Brisbane, Australia, a city in the state of Queensland where she works as an accountant, along with a sideline wedding cake business and her writing.

She is married with two children, has two dogs and house in the suburbs, and a pile of friends and family dotted all over the country that help keep her sane.
When she’s not busy running after naughty kids, filthy dogs, crunching numbers, piping buttercream and writing books, you can find her curled up in bed in the early hours of the morning reading new books and re-reading old favourites. Her favourite books are the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward in which she longs to eventually join the brotherhood and change her name to Phierce Mutha.

Outward Shows

"So may the outward shows be least themselves:
The world is still deceived with ornament."

The Merchant of Venice
Daniel’s point of view

Following Chapter 15, The Weight of Words By the time I reached the pathways leading to the Vic Quad, I felt certain my heart was going to explode. A mere sixty seconds had passed since I'd said goodbye to Aubrey, and already I wanted to turn around and run back to her building.

Am I falling in love? Is that what's going on here? I wondered, bringing my hand to my chest, where my heart was thumping wildly.

But then I got that familiar pain in my left shoulder blade, the one that warns me I'm about to have a bad-ass panic attack, and I realized what I'd mistaken for the innocent fluttering of heart strings were actually palpitations. I'd thought I was over this. The need for Ativan hadn't even crossed my mind since well before Christmas.

I stumbled toward the benches outside the men's residence, black blobs forming behind my eyes. I forced myself to breathe evenly, in through my nose and out through my mouth, recollecting the night two weeks ago when I'd counseled Aubrey to do this very thing while she was feeling sick at the theatre.

Aubrey.

Hopefully she'd recovered from her own meltdown. Not pulling her into my arms as she'd cried in the Jackman lobby had taken a Herculean effort, despite the small measure of comfort I’d felt, knowing she was reeling emotionally, just as I was.

By now, she was probably laughing and joking upstairs with the roomie. That prick. She'd insisted they were just roommates. "It's not like that," she'd claimed, when Penny had implied there was something going on with him. Of course, she'd said something similar about me in the same breath, and now look at us.

And what guy takes his roommate to Canoe for dinner on Valentine's Day?

I’d seen the way he'd looked at her on Friday after running home to be her savior when she was sick. How could I help doubting his intentions, even if I trusted hers?  Sweetheart, he'd called her as he'd touched her hair. God, I'd wanted to punch his lights out, and it takes a lot to inspire that kind of reaction in me. I'm far more inclined to try to mindfuck someone with rhetoric than punch them. When faced with the overwhelming urge to knock out two or three of Matty boy's pearly whites, I knew I was well and truly screwed.

I forced myself to stop rehashing the events of that awful night. Going over everything was doing more harm than good. Focusing on the rhythm of my heart instead, I continued to breathe deeply, sitting up and rubbing at the pain in my shoulder. It seemed as if this wasn't going to be a full-blown attack after all. I was already feeling better and allowed myself to finally revel in my victory.

For weeks now I'd been trying to convince myself Aubrey must be spoken for, had to be in a relationship with someone, was far too beautiful and intelligent to be unattached. And yet today, it seemed I'd been proven wrong. She seemed, for all the world, to be entirely available.

And the icing on the cake? Aubrey wanted me, too.

Today we’d shared our feelings, all the while acknowledging the need for both discretion and delay, the only contact between us the slightest meeting of fingertips across the table. That one touch had said everything I’d wanted to tell her over the past few weeks: I can't stop thinking about you, I want to know you, I need to be with you. The hesitation and helpless inability to clasp her hand in mine had also spoken volumes:

I can't be with you. Not now. We have to wait.

This was an overwhelming reality.

And how the fuck would I hold myself together in that ten by twenty foot room every Friday without reaching out to pull her near, to kiss her, to bury my face in her long, silky hair, to touch her skin?

If only she'd dropped the class in those first few days. But no, there was no frightening her away. In fact, my attempts to intimidate her, as feeble and inconsistent as they’d been, had probably made her more determined to stick around.

About one thing I was certain—Aubrey Price was no pushover.

I leaned back on the bench and tested my vision. The black spots were clearing, the pain in my chest easing. What had just happened was a purely physiological response to my having potentially made one of the biggest mistakes of my life. Going against everything my father had said, irresponsibly flouting all good sense and logic, I'd laid bare my feelings for Aubrey. If she wanted to, she could ruin me, once and for all. One word from her, and my probationary contract, both as TA and as Ph.D candidate would be pulled in the blink of an eye.

Last year, I wasn’t the man Nicola had made me out to be.

Was I becoming him now?

Book Summary

Picture
Aubrey Price is in the final months of her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto. Bright, witty, and fiercely independent, Aubrey works part-time for the college dean and has her sights set on graduating with distinction. When she meets Dean Grant's son, Daniel, the TA in her senior Shakespearean studies course, a shared love of the Bard's works and an instant mutual attraction draw Aubrey and Daniel together.

Unfortunately, a strict anti-fraternizing policy--made more perilous by a black mark on Daniel's record--keeps them apart. Against this academic backdrop, Aubrey and Daniel navigate their way through a steamy courtship, their forbidden romance aided, abetted, and sometimes thwarted by a colorful cast of friends, family, and classmates

Excerpt: Living In Sin

He slowly gets up from the chair and takes his blazer off. Tossing it on the chair, he begins unbuttoning his shirt. I try to watch without drooling on myself. He peels the shirt off his body and is left wearing only jeans and a ribbed, sleeveless undershirt. His tattoos are on full display. Funny, I never imagined he had them. He’s always been fully covered up, but I gotta admit, they look fucking sexy on him.

He has a chest piece that extends to his left shoulder and upper arm. I can’t quite make out the detail, but it’s exquisite work. He saunters towards me and stands at the side of the bed. I let my tongue slide over my bottom lip and then bite down on the side as I take him in. His arms are deliciously muscled and his chest toned. I can’t wait to see what’s under that shirt…and those pants.

He pulls me closer to him by my ankle and then swiftly flips me onto my stomach. I let out a small gasp, but don’t stop him. He finds the zipper on the back of my dress and slowly unzips it. I feel the breeze on my back, and then I feel the wet tip of his tongue licking me from the nape of my neck to the top of my ass. My body shivers uncontrollably.

Jace flips me onto my back again and pulls the dress from behind my shoulders and down my body. I’m left wearing my black, lace bra and panties.

His eyes rake over the entire length of my body like he’s deciding on what he wants to do first. My chest is rising with hard, heavy breaths, my entire body feels like it’s on fire, and my pussy is dripping.

He grabs my legs, spreads them as far apart as they can go, and crawls in between them. He’s like a panther; long, beautiful, muscular, and intense. His eyes feel like they’re boring into my soul, the muscles in his arms and shoulders are flexing with every movement, and I’m the innocent deer about to get pounced on. I’ve never wanted to be prey more in my life.

His face hovers above mine and his tongue snakes out and onto my lips. They part on instinct, and I feel the warmth and wetness of his tongue glide over mine. Without thinking about it, I suck his tongue into my mouth, causing him to make a deep groaning noise. I release it, and he drops his face to my exposed neck and licks up towards the bottom of my ear. I feel a small bite on my lobe and I moan.

He sits back on his knees in between my legs, and rubs his thumb over my clit through my panties. I bite down on my lip and lift my head enough to be able to watch him. Looking back into my eyes, he pulls the black lace down past my hips, lifts my legs in the air, and removes them. He grips the underside of my thighs with his huge hands and opens me up to his viewing pleasure. I see a small smile touch his lips.

      “A piercing. I like it.”

He’s referring to my hood piercing. It’s a gold bar with two pink jewels, one that rests directly on my clit.

He maneuvers mine and his body to where he’s lying on his stomach with his face directly at my opening. I feel his tongue flick the piercing once, then twice, and then he takes it in between his lips and sucks.

My hands fly to his head and I pull him closer. He releases my clit and pulls back slightly, causing my hands to fall from his head. I grip the cover instead. He lifts my ass up in the air, and my legs hover above my shoulders. I’m spread wide open. He inspects me for a moment before lowering his head and licking me from my ass to my clit and back down.

“Holy fuck!” I blurt out. I wasn’t expecting that.

He does it again, and again. His hands are holding my ass in the air, and his tongue dips inside of my wet opening then up to my clit where he sucks it into his mouth then tugs the piercing gently with his teeth.

      “Oh God yes!” I moan.

He lowers my ass and legs back to the bed and stands up. I watch him as he begins undressing. He pulls the shirt off and I get a better view of the tattoos on his chest. His abs are perfect, and if I counted right, there may be eight of them. He has that delicious V that I wish all men had. He notices me salivating over him, and begins slowing down; teasing me.

Jace Jamison is every woman’s fantasy. He’s a mysterious businessman willing to sweep you off your feet, a tattooed bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, and a sexy friend you want to take that next step with. Jace is everything and anything you want him to be. He’s a highly paid escort.

But nobody knows who Jace really is; the man whose dad abandoned him, whose brother was killed, and who had to take care of his mom at a young age. At the age of nineteen, he was living in Sin City, ready for a life away from stress and struggle.

Adrienne has been having a sexual drought since she broke up with her boyfriend. Even then she wasn’t getting fully satisfied. Being an event planner, she’s constantly working at numerous events. Several times she’s seen a man she can only refer to as the God-like creature at her work functions. He’s devastatingly handsome, tall, and has beautiful eyes, but he’s always with a different woman. The last thing she needs is another player in her life.

After a few chance encounters with Jace, her best friend convinces her to just get some good sex out of him and not worry about who she’s seen him with. But what happens when she finds out that he isn’t dating these women because he wants to, but because he’s paid to?

Keeping his job a secret from Adrienne seems easy at first, but when she begins meeting people he knows in his escort life, and they begin getting closer, he knows he has to tell her before someone else does.

When their worlds entwine, and confessions are made, will they be able to work through it? Will she be able to push aside his sins and focus on the good in him? Will Jace get what he’s never had? A woman who wants him despite what he’s done. Or will living in sin cost him what he never knew he wanted?

*An erotic, contemporary romance*

Excerpt:  Book Two (Untitled)
Unedited and Subject to change

“Troy, even after all these years, you still hold a grudge? You know what that means don’t you? It means you still care about me.” A smile stretches across her face, showcasing her straight, white teeth.

I smile at her. “Oh Carla, I didn’t realize until now just how much I’ve enjoyed having you out of my life.”

Her smile is quickly replaced with a scowl. “You’ve changed.”

      “I have.”

“You still look good, maybe even better than before,” she says, eyeing me up and down.

“Well, guess you should be going,” I say, looking at my watch.

“You don’t think I look good?” she asks with a cunning smile.

Unfortunately, I did notice that she looks good. Her body appears to be toned like she spends a lot of time in the gym, and it’s obvious she’s been in the sun, because her natural caramel-colored skin has a more bronzed look.

“You like fine,” I say with nonchalance. “Maybe you should go ask Rob what he thinks.”

She ignores my comment about Rob. “I don’t have a car here, Troy. How do you expect me to leave?”

“I’m not sure why you had someone drop you off here, anyway. Call a cab.”

“I don’t have a phone,” she says with a pout.

I let out an exasperated sigh. “Fuck, Carla. I don’t have time to deal with you,” I say as I look at my phone and try to figure out how much time I have until Emilie gets here.

We're thrilled to spotlight, RAW, by Belle Aurora. I recently became a fan of Belle and her fantastic writing, but once I got my greedy hands on Raw, it's now officially an obsession. Maybe I was inspired and influenced by Twitch and his dark, stalker character? I hope so because Twitch captured my attention, my fears, and my heart from the moment he appeared and he never let go until the heartbreaking end. I devoured Raw in one sitting. I couldn't get enough. The book begins very appropriately, "Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love.... it did not end well." If you love unconventional, disturbingly hot, and twisted love stories - with an ending that will leave you distressed and screaming for more? Don't wait another second - one-click this now. I applaud Belle for not tying everything into a neat little bow, yet the romance and sweetness is very strong - at the core, Raw is a still passionate love story.

"There's only one way I fuck." He takes a step forward, his eyes never leaving mine. "Dirty... And this type of dirty..." He breathes deep and says on an exhale, "...it doesn't wash off."

Sexy Excerpt: Meet Twitch and Lexi!

This is the single most erotic experience of my life.
A mewing sound escapes her and I pull back. Beautifully flushed, her eyes flutter open and I lick my lips.
I taste strawberry lip gloss.
Clearing my throat, I utter, “Gratitude displayed. Now, thank me, baby.”
Asking her to thank me for letting her suck my tongue is a bit much, I’ll admit that, but she blinks before saying softly, almost dreamily, “Thank you, Twitch.”
And my cock nearly explodes.
I need to get out of here. Buttoning up my jacket, I stand. “Got shit to do, babe. I’ll call.” Returning to her usual self, she smiles, “No. You won’t.”
Smiling back, I respond, “No. I won’t.”
Then I turn on my heel and walk away from the girl of my dreams.
"You know that saying actions speak louder than words? His actions are speaking for him. And I like what they're saying. I wonder if he'll let me keep him."

Author Note: This is not a love story. This is a story of love gone wrong.

Growing up the way I did, you’d think I’d be more screwed up than what I actually am.

Soon as I turned sixteen, I left that bump in the road I called home and took my chances on the street.

Best decision I ever made.

Now, at the age of twenty six, I’m educated, employed and damn good at my job.

My friends have become my family. Like me, they know what it’s like to grow up unloved.

But the saying is true.

The world makes way for those who know where they are going.

That’s me.

I know where I’m going and I’ll get there eventually. On my own terms and at my own pace.

But then there’s him.

I feel his eyes on me. I see him hiding in plain sight. He watches me.

He makes me feel.

It’s unconventional.

But it’s real.

I’m sure you’re wondering how a person falls in love with their stalker.

So am I.

This isn’t a story.

This is my life.

"Her lips part a little and I slide my tongue into her mouth. And she sighs. She fucking sighs. As if my tongue was a fucking gift."

His tongue and mouth left mine to leave a hot, wet path from my mouth, across my jaw line, and down to my neck. My leg lifted of its own accord and he took it as a sign to hitch me up higher until both my legs either dangled off the floor or wrapped around him. I chose to wrap my legs around him and was rewarded with a thick hard column pressing into my sex. We both groaned at the contact and I could feel his sound against my neck. The reverberations sent minor shocks throughout my nervous system. Holding me up against the wall, he began thrusting against me rhythmically, every impact of his hips making me hotter and wetter than I remembered I could get.

I gripped him tighter with my legs and dug my hands into his hair, using every bit of his body as leverage. He held me up with ease, as if I were a feather. One hand was under my right butt cheek and the other was exploring my left side, pulling out my T-shirt, only to find the tank underneath. Needing his mouth back, I tugged on his hair and he took the hint immediately. He fastened his lips over mine and we devoured each other, still rubbing our lower bodies against each other as the bass from the dance floor pounded the floor boards.

Whimpering, I begged in moans and small cries for more. A familiar but almost forgotten tension was winding its way from between my legs outward. All thoughts of storage rooms and hallways and strangers were lost in a swirl of bright lights that were bursting behind my eyelids.

“I got you, baby,” he growled against my mouth. “Just let go.” And so I did. I closed my eyes and let those long dormant feelings wash over me, spreading from the inside of my legs to the nerve endings in my toes and fingertips and the very top of my head. All the while, he kept grinding and grinding and grinding against me, whispering in my ear how I was the hottest thing he’d ever held, how he couldn’t wait to taste, how he’d die if he couldn’t be inside me tonight.

Steamy Excerpt: Meet Derrick and Stephanie!

Derrick reached his hand out toward Stephanie, and she grasped it tightly, intertwining their fingers. She pulled in close to him and said, “I'm your girl, huh?”

“Tonight you are,” Derrick said as he shot Stephanie a wink.

“Your break,” Derrick declared as he racked the balls.

Derrick then watched as Stephanie began to shoot. He stood behind her and said, “Here put your hands like this.”

“Okay, and then what?” she asked.

Derrick pulled in close behind Stephanie as he was showing her how to correctly hold the cue. His lips were an inch from her ear, and Derrick took the opportunity to whisper “Did that get your panties wet watching me beat that guy?”

Stephanie turned back, smiled, and said, “It would have, if I was wearing any.”

Derrick reacted by sliding his hand across Stephanie's stomach and gently pulling her back into him. He simultaneously pressed himself forward, and Stephanie felt Derrick's bulge pressing into her. Stephanie could easily feel how hard Derrick was as he said, “Feel that? That's what you do to me.”

Stephanie looked around as she slid her hand down Derrick's stomach and over his crotch. She said, “I think it's time for me to leave, but I'm scared. Think you could walk me to my car?”

“It depends where your car is. This neighborhood can be awfully sketchy,” Derrick said with a mocking tone.

Stephanie told Derrick, “It's in the very dark, very secluded parking lot in the alley out back.”

Derrick replied, “Then I'm definitely not going back there. Look at what I'm wearing -- I might end up getting raped walking around like this,” as he laughed.

Stephanie started walking away and said, “Up to you. But if you do want something bad to happen, come follow me.”

Derrick watched as Stephanie took a few steps away without looking back. He looked at how her tight skirt formed beautifully around her ass, and he noticed how sexy her legs were in her red heels. It only took another step before Derrick was close in tow behind Stephanie.

The pair quickly reached the driver's side door of Stephanie's brand new white Volvo as she said, “This is me.”

Without saying a word, Derrick turned Stephanie so her back was pressed against the car door. He wrapped his right arm around her lower back, and he slid the fingers on his left hand through her hair at the nape of her neck and pulled her head in and began kissing her.

Stephanie, again trying desperately to not think of Jacob, noticed how different this kiss was compared to the kiss of her husband. Jacob's kisses were always soft, slow, gentle, and deliberate. Derrick's kiss was filled with depth and passion. The way his lips met hers and the way Derrick caressed her tongue with his set Stephanie on fire.

As they were kissing, Derrick's hand slid down and began caressing Stephanie's ass. As he felt, Derrick said, “You lied, you are wearing panties.”

Feeling the potent combination of Derrick’s powerful sexuality and the cocktails from the bar, Stephanie started opening the car door and replied, “Then get in here and punish me.”

Stephanie sat in the soft tan leather of the driver's seat, but she quickly moved herself over to the passenger's side to make room for Derrick. Derrick sat in and adjusted the seat all the way back, and the new car smell mixed with the leather interior to create a wonderful scent. The two continued their passionate kissing as Derrick's hands wandered all over Stephanie's toned, sexy body.

Stephanie started to slide over on to Derrick's lap, and she pulled her skirt up just enough so she could straddle her legs around him while facing him. Once on top of Derrick, she began unbuttoning her top, and she said, “Remember what you told me you wanted to watch the other day? That show you wanted?”

Derrick said he remembered it quite well.

“Well.....” Stephanie said as she pulled her skirt even higher revealing the front of her red, lace thong. She continued, “Just watch.”

Stephanie stared directly at Derrick as she unbuttoned her top further and pulled the front of her bra down. She revealed her perfectly shaped C-cup breasts, and she began massaging them with both hands. After a moment, only one hand remained on her breasts as she began to place two fingers in her mouth, sucking them to get them wet. Once her fingers were dripping with saliva, Stephanie slid her hand down the front of her thong, and Derrick watched as she began fingering herself under her panties.

As Stephanie massaged her clit, her other hand pulled and tugged on her nipples. Her head leaned back, and she began to moan uncontrollably. Derrick pulled the front of her panties down, allowing him full view of Stephanie's intense fingering of her perfectly shaved pussy. Stephanie continued until she was tugging on her nipples harder and harder, her chest became flush red, and she exploded into a body-convulsing orgasm.

As her orgasm ended, Stephanie regained control of her body, and she withdrew her fingers from her panties. She brought them to her lips as she whispered, “If only I had something to suck on,” and she slid her fingers into her mouth only to withdraw them slowly while looking Derrick in the eye.

Stephanie crawled over to the passenger seat. With her knees on the seat and her ass in the air, she lowered her head into Derrick's lap. Derrick's hand found its way to Stephanie's skirt covered ass, and he began massaging and squeezing it as she unbuckled his pants.
